Hancock Historic District Commission

The Hancock Historic District Commission will be meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 at the Town Office to hear the following application:

NAME OF APPLICANT:     Rich LeFebvre for the Hancock Historical Society -
ADDRESS OF PROPERTY:  7 Main Street
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:   See below -

Phase One: Relocation of the antique town hearse into a newly constructed addition onto the end of the existing west shed that currently houses the Society’s tool shed. The new addition would be approximately 15 feet wide and 9 feet long added onto the end of the existing western shed. When complete it will align with the end of east shed and follow the same roof and wall lines of the west shed. The construction would require no demolition or changes to the existing exterior walls other than a minimal amount needed for attachment of the new addition’s walls.

Phase Two: Once the new space for the hearse is complete the hearse can be moved from the east shed allowing renovation of interior space for expanded archive use. The existing east shed should undergo no exterior changes other than an existing rear fire exit door replaced with a window allowing more natural light into the interior. This window would only be visible from the outside when standing in the alley between sheds. The time frame for the first phase of the project would be fall of    2024. The second phase will be contingent on the completion of phase one and successful fundraising.
